A shout out to Emily Levine, A.L.L. consultant, whose literacy work at Gibson Elementary School in Woodland, CA launched our new collaboration with Classroom Libraries Co., giving us the opportunity to offer curated book selections that are arranged in a systematic way -- allowing Gibson’s teachers to set up their Guided Reading and classroom libraries effortlessly!
To support Emily’s onsite PD that focused on Guided Reading, she customized leveled texts for Grades K-6, a natural follow-up to her work there this year. Emily, along with Nicole Kent, principal, and teacher teams reviewed assessment data and the school’s reading curriculum units.
The information gathered made certain that texts not only would be both “just right” to stretch students decoding and comprehension but also fit within the framework of content units already in place.
Emily and Nicole's careful examination and analysis of texts, resulting in the decision to utilize Fountas and Pinnell levels, ensured teachers would receive resources that were instantly useful.
The teachers are now able to vertically align expectations for reading proficiency for Grades K-6.
Emily is excited to return to Gibson to see these new books in the students’ hands, stretching their thinking as they work alongside their teachers in small groups!
