Teachers looked at Guided Reading instruction including how to first assess students for Guided Reading groups, after which they explored the three parts of the Guided Reading lesson. Using their favorite read aloud, they planned their own lessons including what vocabulary words to highlight, the structure of their text choice (i.e., compare/ contrast, one moment, etc.).
The participants capped the week off by writing about reading. In response to The One and Only Ivan, they were given a menu of various writing activities from which they could select: a book review, a letter to the author, a poem or a favorite quote to illustrate. In this videoclip and the next, teachers chose to write a poem that the book inspired.
