Accelerated Literacy Learning was thrilled to work with the Dallas Independent School District for a week-long Summer Institute in June.
The Institute was focused on developing a coherent model of instruction consistent throughout the district. Administrators, teachers and coaches Grades K-5 spent part of their day learning how to plan and implement launching the year in Writer’s Workshop. They explored ways to construct mini lessons, confer with students about their writing and how to assess student work to inform instruction. For the other part of the day, participants met in small writing workshops and had the opportunity to nourish their own writing lives in order to become better teachers of writing. They shared many personal and poignant memories and examined literature for writing ideas and craft techniques. Participants embraced the concepts and love of writing recognizing how they might inspire the generation of young writers they teach.
