Our August institute at Sacramento City Unified School District was well received and highly successful. We aim to make learning fun, focused and structured, through the techniques pioneered by our Accelerated Literacy Learning coaches.
In this institute, we continued building a high functioning team of teachers in order to create sustainable capacity and foster the growth and development of of balanced literacy. We focused on developing a coherent model of instruction that is consistent throughout the school.
In our first video, a 6th grade teacher is discussing the first entry he wrote in his his writer's notebook. He explains that he wanted to be practical and write a list of the types of entries he needed to create in order to introduce the concept to his student's. The list includes types of entries, as well as specific ideas for each category.
In our second video we give an example of how our teachers created lifelines as one of their notebook entries. This particular teacher chose to depict his lifeline using baseball (about which he is very passionate), as a metaphor for memorable moments in his life.
